Alison Malsbury of Canna Law Group is cautious on CBD for pets from a legal perspective. While her blog post certainly isn’t definitive, she raises several issues that suggest that companies selling cannabis products for pets are taking on some legal risks potentially. She warns that CBD rules are even more complex for animal products than those intended for human consumption, which remains a very murky area.
Those marketing cannabis products aimed at animals need to consider international, federal and state laws. Malsbury suggests that the only way a cannabis product for pets could be legal is if it is made with properly extracted, imported industrial hemp. She states that in Washington, all cannabis products can be sold only for human consumption, and she points to illegal manufacturing and distribution taking place in Oregon.
