Allison Kopf, CEO and co-founder of Agrilyst, at TechCrunch Disrupt SF
Agrilyst, which is officially launching in the TechCrunch Disrupt SF Battlefield today, helps greenhouse operators run their operations more efficiently by pulling in data from sensors in the greenhouse and information about crop yields and other metrics.
As Agrilyst CEO and co-founder Allison Kopf told me, the idea for the service came to her while she was working at BrightFarms, a venture-backed urban greenhouse operator based in New York City. She told me that even though she studied physics and wasn’t really looking for a job in agriculture, she “fell in love with this world because there was so much room for improvement and the industry is growing so fast.”
As Kopf told me, virtually everybody she tells about her service asks whether she’s part of the growing marijuana industry. While that’s not the company’s primary market, she did acknowledge that this is one of the potential use cases for the service.
