Mammoth Distribution is Hyper Focused on the California Vape Market

Exclusive Interview with Mammoth Distribution COO Nik Patel

Mammoth Distribution sees the vape market as a major catalyst for the growth of California’s recreational market, and the company is putting all of its efforts into that space. COO Nik Patel, who comes from founding a company in the alcohol and barware space, discussed the company’s focused strategy and brand portfolio.

Because Mammoth is betting on vapes as a be a major entry point into the recreational market for new consumers, educating consumers and retailers on oil, vapes, and product effects is a core part of the company’s strategy. Already, the company services approximately 80 percent of the licensed stores and delivery companies in California.

As the company cultivates its brand portfolio, it seeks brands that will make it a one-stop-shop for all retailers’ vape needs. The company wants vape brands with a strong concept, promising sales, and success in a specific niche. Once the company adds a brand to its portfolio, it takes it statewide. By bringing together a diverse group of brands, Mammoth can hit every customer demographic retailers serve in the vape market. The Mammoth portfolio currently includes five vape brands: Heavy Hitters, Give, RAD, Bae, and Ash and Ember.  Heavy Hitters is one of the top two vape brands in California, while RAD is one of the fastest growing, according to Patel. Bae is a vape brand marketed toward female consumers. Give is geared toward veterans who use cannabis and, as the name suggests, gives back to that community. Ash and Ember is the newest brand to join the Mammoth portfolio.

While the cannabis industry is experiencing explosive growth within the U.S. and on a global scale, Patel does not see expansion into other markets in the near future. Once the company masters the California market, Patel imagines organic growth will take Mammoth into other markets.

Thus far, Mammoth has been 100 percent self-funded, and Patel hopes to keep it that way. He feels the company’s self-funding enables decision-making driven by the needs of the company’s retailers and their customers. But, the question of funding could change in the future. The company would possibly accept a funding offer that would help it accomplish its goals faster and on a larger scale, according to Patel.

Patel sees the company’s team – 110 people strong – as of one of its key differentiators. Mammoth has invested a significant amount of effort into hiring people who bring professionalism and knowledge to the table. The company will continue adding to that team as it expands throughout California.
