A hemp processing company plans to open a plant in Pueblo that will employ 163 workers by 2017, the company and the Pueblo Economic Development Corp. announced Friday. The jobs will pay an average minimum salary of $41,590 plus benefits.

CBD Biosciences, a partnership of global oil extraction leader Thar Process Inc. and oil vaporizer device maker O.penVAPE of Denver, plans to remodel the former Boeing building at the Airport Industrial Park into a plant that processes oil from hemp plants. Hemp is used to make oils, paper, clothing and other products. It contains only a trace amount of the psychoactive component of marijuana.

CBD Biosciences also plans to establish a Global Hemp Center for Innovation staffed by scientists and technicians, PEDCO said in a news release. The center will serve as a leading authority on hemp extraction, purification, analysis and formulation, and also bring numerous conferences a year to the Pueblo area, the job creation group said.
