Etain, one of the five companies awarded a medical cannabis license by New York State in late July, is a women-owned business operated by Amy Peckham, CEO, and her two daughters, Hillary, COO, and Keeley, Chief Horticultural Officer. Amy has a personal connection to medical cannabis, as her mother’s plight with ALS led her to begin an extensive research process in 2013. Hillary is a recent graduate of Dartmouth, while Keeley is certified horticultural therapist.
The company, which has partnered with industry leaders Bhang and Clean Room Extracts, has based its manufacturing facility in Chestertown, and it will operate dispensaries in Albany, Kingston, Syracuse and Yonkers. It plans to offer low-THC/high-CBD products as well as extracts that are balanced between the two cannabinoids. In New York, companies can manufacture only liquids for oral use or vaporization or pills.
In an interview with Mountain Lake PBS, the Peckhams discuss how their mission extends beyond their goal to help patients. They see their business as helping to revitalize the Adirondacks region, initially offering 20 jobs with the likelihood to extend to 60 or more working in the four greenhouses when the company reaches full capacity. Etain cited the community’s widespread support of its business.
