Maine Credit Unions Fill Void as Banks Shun Medical Cannabis Industry

With federal illegality and unclear guidance to banks, Maine, like many other states, is not friendly to the medical cannabis industry with respect to banking services. A Portland Press Herald article details the issues at the state level while providing an excellent framework for the challenges at the federal level.  While state-approved medical cannabis dispensaries like Remedy Compassion Center and caregivers like EastCoast CBDs and even a trade union, Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine, have reported problems opening and maintaining accounts, cPort Credit Union and Five County Credit Union are willing to serve the industry.
