Cannabis companies have seen their Instagram accounts under attack for months, but now the social media company’s parent, Facebook, has joined in. It was widely reported that three of New Jersey’s not-for-profit dispensaries saw their pages taken down this week. Yesterday, one of the leading cannabis brands, Mary’s Medicinals, lost its 20K followers when Facebook deleted its account despite the company’s efforts to address any issues. Ganjapreneur details the story, but one thing that really stands out is that the company believes a competitor may have reported its page to Facebook. Graham Sorkin, Director of Business Development, said:
There are thousands of other product manufacturers not being shut down. It just takes one competitor to report your page
The cannabis industry faces enough challenges, including stigma issues and regulatory barriers. Let’s hope that Sorkin’s suggestion proves to be wrong.
