Earlier this year, Doug Francis succeeded founder Justin Hartfield as CEO of Weedmaps. Culture Magazine profiled the new CEO, who, at 38, has been with the company for seven years. Before Weedmaps, he had been working in the mortgage industry and then co-founded a chain of MMJ referral clinics with Dr. Bonni Goldstein in 2007.
He explains the early days of Weedmaps, in which the company became a trailblazer. Francis discusses the secret sauce of Weedmaps and why he doesn’t fear competition from Google or Facebook, should they decide to enter the space. It’s clear that Francis is passionate about the plant and a big supporter of the industry, and he expects that this authenticity will continue to reap dividends in the future.
