Bruce Linton, CEO of Canopy Growth (TSXV: CGC) (OTC:TWMJF), the parent company of Tweed and Bedrocan Cannabis, gave a TEDx talk in Kanata, Ontario on March 31st. The theme of the event was “breaking barriers”, but Linton actually praised them, as he believes that the opportunities he is pursuing are a consequence of barriers that are quickly coming down.
Linton, who was apparently a chicken farmer earlier in his life, described his initial interest in the industry and how he figured out the huge opportunity. Raising sufficient capital, which he said is at least $10mm, proved to be a barrier to entry for many applicants, but Tweed was able to do so. At the same time, the legal barriers are not sustainable, and Linton believes that the falling of the Berlin Wall is a good analogy.
Linton sees the branding opportunities as substantial for the legal cannabis producers in Canada but also throughout the world. Tweed has hosted regulators from countries like Germany and Jamaica who want to learn more about how to properly regulate the market. He suggested that Canopy Growth will be a multi-billion enterprise.
