In episode 34 of Investing in Cannabis, Brandon David interviews Adam Steinberg, Head of Business Development at Flow Kana, the California company focused on providing sustainable, sun-grown cannabis via delivery. Flow Kana aims to be the voice of the small farmer in the state. The company is currently working with about 8 Emerald Triangle growers.
Steinberg expects the market to evolve similarly to the beer industry, with large commercial brands as well as the craft farmers with which Flow Kana has aligned itself. Co-founder Nick Smilgys, who previously had worked at SPARC from 2010-2014, is responsible for vetting the growers. Flow Kana hopes to be able to help the small farmers navigate the evolving landscape in California, which could substantially raise their costs.
While many of the Flow Kana customers don’t necessarily appreciate the mission of the company, they like the quality of the product and the fact that it is lab-tested and convenient. For first-time patients, there is a survey that helps with the proper strain selection. Flow Kana also delivers solventless cold-water extracts from two processors, Frenchy Cannoli and Fire King. Finally, while the company originally started as a delivery service, it is also acting as a wholesaler to dispensaries.
