New questions are being raised about the viability of Minnesota’s medical marijuana program, after the second manufacturer this week began offering a discount on its products.
Minnesota Medical Solutions is now offering a steep 50 percent discount to some patients on their first visit. The move comes just two days after Leafline Labs cut prices on a one-month’s supply by 15 percent.
That growing competition comes as they fight over the small pool of people – less than 500 – who are able to be prescribed the drug and find solutions for patients who say it’s just too expensive.
The biggest issue to watch in the coming weeks is the debate brewing over “intractable pain.” MDH is currently considering whether patients with such pain should be allowed to take part in the program. Adding such patients could attract hundreds of new customers and push down prices. A decision must be made by the end of the year.
