Austin Heap, the Cofounder and CEO of California-based Potbox, gave some great insight into the company’s philosophy and explained its operations in a recent interview. Potbox partners with three growers to provide premium cannabis by subscription, with deliveries made by courier. The company’s growers include Island in the Sky Farm, owned and managed by Potbox co-founder Evrett Kramer in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Sunset Farms and Zayante Farms.
The company described its process for delivering its ethically-grown cannabis to patients in San Francisco when it launched in July:
After registering at Potbox.com and uploading a copy of their California medical marijuana physician’s recommendation, patients can customize their Potbox based on their medical needs. Each month, Potbox will deliver one quarter-ounce each of two expertly curated premium strains presented in glass jars, and two freshly-rolled joints in wax-sealed glass tubes. Information on each strain is provided, including the type of cannabis, tasting notes, expected effects, and the farm from which it was grown and harvested. Each Potbox costs $149.99 per month.
The company now delivers to Los Angeles as well and lists 14 different strains on its website. CEO Heap has been involved with several technology startups, and his passion for both the plant and his business model were apparent in the interview. He discusses the idea of “seed to soul”, a goal of the company to produce in only the most beneficial ways to the environment and patients. This includes a focus on water consumption and drives their lab testing.
We give our customers unprecedented insight into where their cannabis comes from, how it was grown, and how it got to their door. Along with rigorous lab tests and farming standards, this is how we built Potbox to be one of the most trusted names in cannabis.
