This story has a happy ending, as Intuit reversed its decision after the article was posted. Evan Nison, who runs a public relations firm and has deep ties to the cannabis industry an advocate, was rejected by Intuit. From the original story:
Evan Nison runs a marijuana-specific public relations firm and recently found out the hard way that Intuit, the parent company of QuickBooks, will not do business with him.
Nison signed his PR firm up for a QuickBooks account last month. Everything seemed to be going fine until he tried processing the first client payment and noticed it didn’t go through, Nison told Extract.
Nison was forced to call the company and wait on hold for hours before finally reaching the Risk Department, which told him that any affiliation with medical marijuana was an “unacceptable business type.”
That will teach companies to target public relations firms!
