This is the time of year when many make charitable contributions. One of the early lessons I learned when entering the industry in 2013 is that without those who advocate for patients’ rights, education, research, political advocacy and criminal justice issues, we wouldn’t have much of an industry, and I have made many financial contributions since then. These organizations pave the way for ballot initiatives as well as educating our policy makers and legislators at the state and federal levels. It is imperative that we as an industry support these organizations to help reduce the stigma of cannabis and to enlist understanding and support from those outside the industry.
When we launched New Cannabis Ventures in 2015, we pledged to donate 2% of our revenue to supporting organizations that are working for responsible legalization and a favorable social, economic and legal environment for the industry. We have honored our commitment, joining NCIA earlier this year at the Sponsoring level and will step up to the Sustaining level in early 2018. We also joined the Minority Cannabis Business Association at the Silver level and Marijuana Policy Project’s Club of 1000 and have also supported many of the other organizations we list on our site.
We hope that our readers will join our effort and consider making contributions to these organizations, many of which are fully tax-deductible. Without them, the industry’s participants would likely struggle to advance our cause and ultimately prosper. As we close out what has been a year of great progress, let’s make sure that we continue to support those who have helped enable our success. If there is an organization that you believe belongs on our list, please contact us so that we can consider it.
